Hi just bought two chickens. I was wondering about what kind of light i need. I was told i dont need a heat lamp and to just use a office light with a 100wt bulb. I was told to keep them from 90 to 80 degrees. WHat can you tell me? Thanks Taylor

How old are they? How much heat you need depends on their age and how large of an area you need to keep warm. If you could give some info on thier age, breed, living space, etc. it would help a lot.

bluff rocks chickens, they are females, and living with a duck, i think they are about 2weeks

I'm trying to remember for sure, but I think around 90 degrees is good. I just keep an eye on them and if they're all piled up under the lamp and peeping thier heads off they need more heat, if they're out at the corners and/or are laying there panting with wings spread out they're too hot. If they move around the brooder and seem generaly happy then everything is good.
