The old corn crib was on the property when we bought it a couple summers ago. We were pretty convinced that it would not move with the tractor we had, but since I have an amazing husband, he went out and tried. And it worked! Now it is sitting by the base of the started coop. It will need to be leveled but it should be fairly easy to make into a functional coop. I do have a question though. If I leave the front top openings open for ventilation, could I use pole barn metal on the outside? Will it get too hot, too cold? We seem to have a never ending supply of unmatched metal that was leftover from builds that we keep bringing home. It sure would be easy just to screw on, but wasn't sure it was sufficient. The other coop will be plywood with 2x4 construction most likely, but once again, all leftover or tear down material. The walls will be 4 ft with an 8ft tall peak. I'm hoping this will be sufficient as well. It will also have outside nesting boxes and a window or two. The corn crib will have internal nesting boxes and is 20x8. The new construction is 16x10.

Corn cribs are very interesting structures... I will be interested in the replies. WRT tin for walls. Should be good especially if you have lots of ventilation. There are lots of people who convert regular old tin Lawn sheds into coops. I think even in cold climates protection from precipitation and wind is the most important.

Love the corn crib, it looks perfect for a chicken coop!!! Please keep us updated with pics.
Also I think as long as there is ventilation the metal should be fine.
