We have two, two day old chicks that were fine yesterday. Standing tall, walking around. Woke up this morning and they are sitting down with their legs out in front of them. When they try to stand they just fall back down. They will stretch a leg out in front of them but then do nothing else. Any idea why/what we should do???

hi, where did you get the chicks from?
will they EVER bear weight on their legs?
do both chicks act identically?
do the legs and toes seem paralyzed or can they wiggle them?

take this to the emergency thread, just in case they might be sick.

My friend hatched them in an incubator. Then she moved them to another incubator because she did not have her brooder ready. (they came early!) She moved them and added electrolytes to their water and they are doing well now. They were walking and standing tall the first day they hatched. It was the second day they started sitting and not being able to stand when they tried. I really think it was the "atmosphere" they were in. Thanks for asking!
