So I know that it's possible, although highly unusual, that a chicken will lay 2 eggs in one day. If a hen (pullet actually) DID lay 2 eggs in one day, how far apart (time-wise) would the eggs be?
Here's why I'm asking. I count how many eggs we get each day and, if possible, who lays them. We have 5 laying birds (2 adults and 3 pullets - 25 & 26 weeks old - who lay almost every day). Yesterday we got 3 eggs, and Marigold was not one of the layers. We're 100% certain of that. Today we had 6 eggs, and 2 of them are Marigold eggs. My son said he is sure that there were no eggs in the egg box at the end of the day yesterday, and so it's not possible that she laid an egg late yesterday. I'm wondering if perhaps one got burried under the bedding material (you know how they dig around and make their spot all comfortable) yesterday but he is sure that that couldn't have happened.
If you had to vote as to whether
a.) Marigold laid 2 eggs today, in a 4 hour window
OR
b.) My 13 year-old-son missed a late-in-the-day egg laid by Marigold (which would make 2 eggs in a 18-20 hour window)
which would you vote?
And yes, we're sure it wasn't one of the other birds. Only for the 2 EEs can we not tell who's egg belongs to whom...
