I got 10 chicks in March (5 Golden Comets, 1 Leghorn, 2 Barred Rocks and 2 Silver-laced Wyandottes). They are all happy and healthy and wonderful and we liked them so much we got 6 more chicks in mid April (3 EE's, a Buff Orphington, a Maran and an Araucana).

The introduction went smoothly with minimal pecking and they are all sharing a coop. But they act like 2 separate flocks. When they free-range all day, the babies go one way and the big girls another. Will they do this forever or will they eventually integrate into one?

mine do the same thing...but eventually most of mine have come together

I worried about mine as well (had 3 EEs and mixed 2 Buff Orpingtons with them), but eventually they accepted my BO's and they spent time together. When my roo died, the girls started picking on his sister, but now 3 weeks later, they are accepting her more and she stays with them when they free range.

mine still do that and it has been about 10 months? maybe 9? but now one of the two of the second group just passed so poor pouncer is all alone now

Oh no, Sheesh, I'm sorry to hear that. Poor lonely chicken.

I just closed the girls in for the night (I still call them "the girls" even though I'm convinced my two Wyandottes are roos). The original 10 were up on the top roosts, two of the baby flock were on the bottom roost and the other 4 peeps were cuddled on the floor. Can't we all just get along?
