TWO MOMMAS

hi im new to BYC and have a question. I have two hens raising 6 chicks together. has anyone else ever had this happen. they did this last year also.

I personally haven't had it happen, but I've read lots of posts on here about hens sharing the "mom" duties with each other's chicks.

Second of all, yes, i have had that happen to me plenty of times and like txnative said they share the chicks.

Well I had 2 broody's hatch their own separate chicks, I put the 2 broody's and all the chicks in one cage, all together and the broody's and chicks loved it. From then on they raised all 5 chicks together, it was great to watch.

I have never done that before, i have tried it but the moms atacked each other...

It's like they take turns. If one goes out to eat the other takes all the chicks. When she gets back the other one goes.

It's so much easier to let momma raise them. I will never raise another chick in the house. To much work.

Yeah, I know and you don't have to stress about doing something wrong...
