I have a black 2 month old silkie who has been the alpha chick in a group of 4. Very healthy, plump, adult feathers coming in nicely, active, etc. I have been letting the chickens outside in the backyard since here in GA it's been in the 80's. Everyday I take their cage outside, open the door and they run out. They peck at the ground, grass, bugs...everything you expect a chick would do. Today when I cleaned their cage and brought them back inside I noticed the black silkie with his head kind of twisted looking at me in a curious way. I didn't think much about it. He was moving and getting around the cage. When my husband came home from work he said have you noticed how "Darkness" is turning his head all the way around? I said yeah he looked at my kind of weird today. Then as we watched them in the cage he was laying down and one of the white silkies went over to him and nugged him. He started flopping around and backing up weirdly and his head was all twisted backwards and he couldn't stand. His legs were splayed out and he was breathing faster. What the heck could of happened to him/her? Thank you.

I have no idea but I'd say if he starts spewing anything that looks like pea soup I'd say you need to get a Catholic priest over there stat.

Your chick sounds like it broke it's neck. The backing up behavior is the result of this. Sorry about the poor thing, he will likely pass away from not being able to eat or drink, so be prepared for the loss- it's never easy.

Here is my silkie with the neck problems that is causing him to not be able to stand or keep his head up. I went and got the Selinium and the Poly Vi Sol and I have mixed those two with the Vitamins and Electrolytes I got at the feed store. I read a post where the lady was giving hers 3x a day so that is what I am doing. I hope he makes it :~/

Here is "Darkness". This pullet can't stand or lift his head and keep it up. I gave him Vitamins and Electrolytes last night that I got from a feed store. Today I went and bought the Selinium and Poly vi Sol. I forgot the Vit E, arghhhh. I crushed the selinium and put in a cup, added the 1/2 dropper of Poly, mixed in some water with the Vitamins and Electrolytes and some of its chick crumbles. Mashed it all and gave him a dropper full. Tell me if there is something else I need to do, THANK YOU. CINDY

Darkness is actually standing!!! He/she is eating at the feeder too. She/he still has moments of collapsing and it's head twisting BUT I think he is responding to the vitamins and getting better. Will keep you posted.
