Hello!

I have a flock of 15 grow outs right now, only 2 of which are jubilee orpingtons!

They are all healthy happy and full of spunk, no sickness or illness or ailments whatsoever in any of them at any point!

The two jubilees are the only two chicks of the 15 who’s outer toes are curled. both chicks, both feet with the outer toe curled. they walk just fine, act fine, are healthy, etc. so I’m not too worried, more-so just wondering if that’s a common thing for the breed? or if it’s more likely just something genetic?

thanks in advance!

What is their exact age? Crooked toes can be a common defect, and sometimes can be corrected within the first day or two of life by taping the toes in a normal fashion (see below.) But after that, it is permanent, and trying to treat it is both painful and a waste of time.

it’s definitely far too late to treat, they are 2 months old. I just never noticed it before so wondering if they started curling later on or if it’s been like that since day one.

nonetheless the curling is very minimal and not interfering at all with the way they walk so do you think they will be fine if there is nothing wrong otherwise?

They should be fine. I have had a few with crooked toes. One speckled Sussex had the worst ones, but even she roosted for all of the 7 years she lived. It isn’t always noticeable the first days, but if crooked they can continue to get a little worse until they stop eventually.
