This is the "red leakage" I was referring to: "Red leakage" refers to rust-colored feathers on a rooster's shoulders or wings and is a normal indicator of his sex in certain breeds.

Thank you, @sourland for clarifying. As soon as I posted my original comment, it dawned on me that the OP may not have been referring to a health flaw but an SOP flaw, prompting my edit. I was only thinking of one aspect and realized my mistake in doing so.Both are cockerels.
It is a 'flaw' in that the pure bred bird deviates from the SOP. In cross bred birds it is of no significance.
Just googled red leakage.Where are you seeing that it's a flaw?
Thank you for explaining. This is the "red leakage" I was referring to: "Red leakage" refers to rust-colored feathers on a rooster's shoulders or wings and is a normal indicator of his sex in certain breeds.
I just goggled it. And the article stated genetic flaws AND color leakage. Reading genetic flaws made me think initially health not just for color. I’m more concerned with sweet, docile chickens that lay. What @redinator said, where did you read that? Curious because I was under the impression that red leakage simply points to a male bird. I've never seen that it was a flaw.
ETA- Do you mean an appearance flaw for show quality birds? If so, I would think the answer is no, it isn't harmful to their health. Sorry, I wasn't thinking about showing and poultry standard appearances. My mind went to health flaws. My apologies!
I find googling most anything about chickens will send you down a rabbit hole of misinformation and confusion.Just googled red leakage.
They definitely are beautiful! I've got a bantam EE. I'm not sure if it's male or female yet because it's only 3 weeks old. But it's pretty.I just goggled it. But I would give extra points).
You are so right. However this website is a wealth of info thanks to people like you helping people like me. I even had someone talk me through hatching a turkey that was stuck in the egg. Most everything I read said to discard the egg. I just couldn’t give up. That turkey was the sweetest Tom I’ve ever had!I find googling most anything about chickens will send you down a rabbit hole of misinformation and confusion.
This is defiantly the most supportive online community I've come across. I just started raising/hatching chickens this past January and would've given up with the first bad hatch if I hadn't found this site. You are so right.
