A neighbor's dog was over at our property this weekend, a second time. It was chasing turkey poults. Mind you, is was a hairy little black chihuahua. Yes, a kick toy. Catching him wasn't any great feat, and I didn't want to put him down, but he is a threat to my birds.

I took a flat piece of white plastic cut from an icecream container and wrote a note with a sharpie marker:

"I have learned a new trick, chasing the neighbor's birds, and I am getting better at it. I almost caught one today. The problem is I got caught by the bird's owner, and he says this is my second strike, as I had done this a few days ago and got away. I won't be coming home if I chase birds again. Please take care of me, because he is serious."

I zip tied this to the dog's collar and being about 4"x4", especially on a small dog, it was quite noticeable. Haven't seen the dog, and haven't heard from the neighbor. Hopefully I don't see the dog again.

Fair warning.

That's a great idea. Our neighbor's dog has already seen strike 2 also. Deputy has been there twice. The owners and the deputies know there is a target on the dog. Haven't seen him since.

Nice of you to give the dog one more chance, and the neighbors VERY fair warning. Not everyone would. I strongly believe in trying to keep peace with neighbors.
