hi all
I have a hen who has been showing some respiratory symptoms including one bubbly eye on and off, and one clogged nostril and some wheezing. She also seems a bit less active than usual. I did get some Tylan 50 but I have no idea how to administer it. So if you could answer a few questions for me that would really help!
1. It says “for cattle and pigs only.” Says nothing about poultry. Is it even safe for chickens?
2. How much of the stuff do I give her? Is it weight based? I do have a scale.
3. Do I give it to the entire flock or just the bubbly eyed one?
4. Do I give it to her orally via syringe or in their water?
5. I have chicks coming very soon. Is it safe to give to young chicks if they begin showing symptoms?
Thanks :)

I was told .30 per pound but I've only given .30 highest.
Tylan 50 liquid should be given intermuscularly so any human insulin needle should work but depending on where you are you may need a perscription. The powder is really the only tylan you should mix in water...
To be honest it may be better to just prevent the chicks from getting sick all together. Respiratory infections like Mg are permanent and can never be cured just treated. I think... I think there is a vaccination but you'd have to get it before they actually catch Mg.... Look into it because I'm not sure about the vaccine thing. If they are around the sick bird they probably already caught the virus... Apparently respiratory infections are highly contagious but I've never had an outbreak thank god i was reccomended .30 per pound twice a day for 5 days max that's what I'm using on my baby pullet now but I get very hesitant when giving them shots

Oh if you give an ***oral shot*** there is a risk of aspiration and death but only if you do it wrong lol :(

Doxycycline may treat her that's how i treated mine but you'd need a perscription. I only paid 17 dollars for it. I think it's also a human antibiotic lol

Thanks for the advice. Anyone else have any thoughts? I don’t want to use a needle...
