Unfortunately I have a CRD with likely MG problem with a large backyard flock. I took a roo to the vet facility at the Vet Faculty at university of guelph and they didnt help a huge bit except to say they compound Tylan into capsules for oral admin and that Tylan will burn the esophagus of a bird and if you must use it injectable to only use 1 dose because of causing muscle atrophy and necrosis. Unfortunately we lost my roo on the drive home (1.5 hours away) and i did put soluble tylan in water and did inject 7 of my birds with 0.2 cc of the tylan 200 subcutaneous and they look better. But if if I do a 2nd injection on them do I wait 48 hours? Tylan 50 wasnt available anywhere here nd I was desperate. I want to get them all a dose of tylan sq today....at least the ones who didn't have it. Only 3 have swollen eyes so far. What can i use as a rinse for the eyes?

Tylan can be given once or twice a day for 3 days injectable, or 5 days orally. Many use the injectable form orally, and most use Tylan 50 injectable on chickens, since it is 1/4 the strength of the 200. 5 mg per lb is the usual dose. You can use saline to clean or rinse the eyes. Clean out any pus that you see. If you can get Terramycin eye ointment, or a plain antibacterial ointment or drop such as Neosporin, it would be good to use in the eye twice daily. Here is some reading about MG (CRD:)

Thank you. The vet seemed to urge me not to use tylan injectable more than once because of tissue or muscle death so I am worried about that. Can I realistically just use only 25% woth the 200 then? Ive read that people say tylan 200 should only be every 48 hours

As I said, you can use the Tylan orally. Tylan indeed can cause tissue damage to the muscle, especially with the more concentrated Tylan 200. But Tylan should be given at least daily for 3-5 days, and some drug books recommend twice a day. Here is an excerpt from Plumb's Veterinary Handbook:

Thank you so much!
Monday I started them on Tylan soluble and injected the sickest ones with 0.2 cc of Tylan 200. The next morning the gasping for air in those chickens was gone so we decided to dose everyone on Tuesday and do a 2nd dose on the sickest again. The vet sent me home telling me to wait 2 days for the meds because they needed to compoundthe tylosin even though she had originally said she had enough to give me for 1 or 2 days for all my birds...then my roo died not an hour later. She said he didnt seem that bad! I was sooo upset (i have lost 6 lbs since Sunday from stress). The tylan 200 injections i did sq and 80% of the birds had markedly improved after their first doae of tylan...mostly the gasping for air and gurgling and sneezing gurgle. I started them yesterday on the Tylan pills when I got them but giving 22 birds pills 2x a day is certainly exhausting but at least they are showing improvement. My other roo is still on deaths bed but his swollen eye is almost back to normal and most of the ones who started getting swollen eyes have shown now a significant decrease in this. So it may be early but im getting more hopeful. One thing that is stramge is that the larger the bird the more sick they seem to be. My muscovy and 21x 3 week old chicks who were exposed have shown no signs so I have them on Tylan soluble for 72 hours . Not sure if I should discontinue or not yet. The other weird thing is we are experiencing a huge heat wave in Southern Ontario and 2 of my hens who are sick...went broody! Ive been waiting all year. Would their eggs even be viable I wonder...
All the eggs I am disposing off aince I started the tylan and i noticed the colour of the eggs went from beautiful brown to all blanched out pale.
This has all been a nightmare and I feel so many regrets about things that happened :(
