My search skills are failing this morning.

DH is a treetrimmer, and we have a HUGE chipper for dealing with brush, that makes nice fine chips/shavings (including out of "limbs" that are up to 12" - ouch!) I've already had him dump me some chips for my garden/landscaping, and he just cut another tree down at our house and chipped it up - so I have a truck load of cedar/mulberry/maple, and a pile of straight maple.

I've read cedar is no-no. Got it

I know in horses, black walnut is no-no. Are there other types of wood that are no? He does all sorts of jobs, so it's a matter of just telling him "When you do such and such tree, dump the chips here."

These aren't big ol' chips either - the Bandit really chews them into bits. Baled pine shavings are probably bigger sized than these.

Pine also gives me a wicked headache after a while, moreso than the smell from cedar, so if possible, I'd like to avoid it.

Thank you!

There is place not to far from our house where a couple tree services dump the shavings it's mostly pine, gum, and some hardwoods. I put them in the garden to and it works very good for breaking up our heavy clay soil. Anyway, when I tried to use it for bedding it would absorb moisture and start to mold/mildew in pretty short order which isn't good for the little ones. I don't know if it was the "freshness" of the mulch or what. Just something to watch for when you use it.
