Uh - Oh - HOT coop ( Updated w/ Pictures of what we have now)

The cheap way is to cut some windows.

Use the cut outs as shutters that you can close in winter or during storms. Just cut it out - attach hinges & use a broom handle or scrap peice of wood to hold it open.

Be sure to cover the opening with chicken wire to keep out the coons at night.

I remember how hot those Texas summers can get. Yup, I would cut a huge opening in one of the sides, cover it with hardware cloth and use the cut out as a pair of shutters. Maybe do it on two sides. You can hook or tie them open. They really need those huge openings in the summer and then you can close them up more for colder weather or bad storms.

If you have a protected side, you could even just leave the panel you cut out off for the summer and just put it back in for the winter. Without much roof overhang, you could also think about adding some type of awning over the windows, if rain coming in becomes an issue. You might not need that, it's just an option.

I have a lot of hinged windows in my coop that swing open like shutters or swing down. One side is mostly open, plus there are several other windows. If my coop wasn't so open in the summer, it would be an oven in there. Think about how hot your house gets, if the windows aren't all open. Or your car. In the winter, we close them up and just go with the smaller ventilation openings. Plywood over openings works just as well.

White paint would be worth adding to the exterior. For the roof, you could replace it, cover it or paint it, too.

You've got a nice little coop there. It just needs some modifications.
