our 4 x 8 coop is now going to be an 8 x 8 coop lol.

we got the floor framing done today, tomorrow ive got some wire work to do, then we need to move it to the spot its going to be...then the floor can go on...and soon...walls!

it was going to be a humble little hen house...now its going to be a hen palace. since were not going to need quite that much room were thinking about rigging a small area for storage so theres no lugging shavings or feed in the snow and rain itll all be contained under 1 roof!

should have known realy...my dad NEVER does anything half way lol!

lol we got a big coop to. about 8x12. we need to make it bigger cause we have new additions to the family, but the way we built it, it will be hard to make bigger. we can only make the 8x12 yard bigger to like 20x12

Oh my gosh. This sounds just like me and my dad. Built one I think was a 4 by 8 too and not long after (and really not long after

) we had to make it grow up. It is like a 9 by something. I can't really remember but let's put it this way it got a LOT bigger. Right now we are in the process of finshing up a duck pen. Yes, I had to go for the ducks too. I have two little baby ducklings in my brooder.

Don't have long till it is ready. It may be hard work but in the end it is worth it.

I think the most valuable advice I have gotten so far is that you can always rig a big coop to be smaller, much harder to go bigger.
I love the idea of an enclosed storage area, I have seen some coop pics where people have metal trash cans in the pen to hold feed and bedding, but thats just not my OCD style.
For now I have my 25lbs. of starter feed in a 5 gallon bucket with a Gamma lid (it makes it water proof)
