We bought these Pullets and we have had them for 6 wks. I am a brand new chicken owner and am really enjoying it but I think this one might be a Roo. What do you think? They are about 8wks. Notice the larger comb and waddles. I also noticed little whispy tail feathers emerging. It is also less timid with new situations. I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado and can't have a rooster. Huh?

The top pic looks like he is a roo, but the others its less noticeable.

I just hatched 8 chicks are I think 6 are roos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I keep looking at them closely every day and willing some of the 'unsure' ones to not grow big wattles!

It looks like he might have pointed saddle feathers coming in. It's hard to tell in the photo. If he ends up being a roo, you can usually find a buyer via Craigslist - or, better yet, someone from BYC.

I hatched 11 chicks - and 7 were roos. It happens.

Thanks! I will keep watching for growth. Should the comb and waddles be bigger at 8wks?

When I first looked at the photo, I thought, I think my red pullets' combs are probably that size and they are about the same age, and I just compared some photos...

Well your chicken's comb is a lot bigger

Definitely has different tail feathers coming in than the others. Shucks! I will try and sell him. What did you do with your bumper crop of Roos?

Gotcha thanks! I am thinking it's a He too!

Yes comb and wattles will be redder and larger in young roos than hens as a very early age depending on the breed of chicken. I keep Japanese Bantams and the males get very big combs and wattles. I would say your one could go either way at the moment, as comb size can also vary within the same breed.

I vote roo, his carriage is different form the others. If he is the only one, he might be more quiet and maybe you can keep the secret
