We've tried a few ultrasonic things for bugs, mice, deer, etc. They're all in the garbage as they didn't seem to do anything. Our two barn cats do the job, though, and I saw one of our young roosters get a vole a few weeks ago. I never saw a chicken stalk anything like it before.
Those scent packets work well. Not sure how to use those in the garden though as they'd get wet unless you'd have an idea to cover them. I wrote an article to DIY those yourself for cheaper.
