Ok please tell me that i am NOT the only one that has experienced this. My NeW Hampshire hen is a rooster! LOL. I brought "her " home last fall - sold to me as a 8 month old hen - looked like a hen - the rooster never batted an eye when "it " came in . No spurs - tho i have to say i had never seen it lay or anything BUT most of my eggs are about the same varying colors so i assumed "she " was. Well this spring it has been going after the rooster - and generally being kind of a jerk. Well this morning - doing chores - hear a crow that i know is not my cochin rooster and certainly isnt a bantam rock crow - there she is out side crowing "her " fool head off . HOW DID THIS ONE GET PAST ME!?!?!?!?!

It happens. I've never had a roo sneak past me, but I've had 2 hens I was convinced were roos until they started laying. Maybe you have a crowing hen?

Good luck.

Well i am not sure what it is LOL but it crows - the body shape - tail fearthers everything except the wattles shows to be a hen - and let me tell you my cochin rooster is a manly man and will have NOTHING to do with another rooster and he was fooled!

Chicken genetics are complex and they can be Hermaphrodites(Both Sexes). Usually they look more hennish but show a lot of roo behavior and rarely, if ever, lay. If you butcher your umm "Butch" hen you will probably find her reproductive tract is very under sized.
