One of my White Plymouth Rocks cut her comb yesterday afternoon so I brought her into the house and cleaned the wound. I then put some wonderdust (https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/pt/wonder-dust-223) on it to stop the bleeding. She was acting fine but to keep the others from bothering the wound I decided to keep her in for at least the night. I put her in a large dog kennel with some food, water, and fresh shavings.
About 4AM I woke up to her clucking loudly and came out to find her panting and nearly immobile. I worried she was dehydrated since it didn't appear she had drank much (and I just dealt with a dehydrated chicken and it seemed similar), so I grabbed a syringe and tried to gently get her to drink. All said, I think I gave her about 6-8 mL of water in 1 mL increments and put her to bed. She wasn't walking much better, but she pooped twice (first nearly all white, second appeared normal) and seemed not to be panting so badly.
Since I was concerned, I went to sleep on the couch next to her and just broke up to some "rattling" or almost a "rasp" to her panting. This lasted about 5 minutes but has since subsided (she is still panting heavily, but no rasp). Could she have gotten water in her lungs from the syringe? Is there anything I can do to help her?
Any advice you can lend is very much appreciated. My other girl is on the mend in the living room so now I have two chickens in "hospital" and I don't want to lose either.
