i would like to get some guineas (about 4-8 )but i am concered about my chickens. i have one flock of 14 hens and 1 rooster,2 goats,2 sheep,2 ducks and 8 bantums hens and 1 rooster, and just order 25 chicks ( 24 hens and a 1 rooster), comeing mid july . every one gets along wonderfully. i would hate to have problems. i have 2 spots to house my chikens one for the older flock and other for the flock to be.my bantums and duck have their own pens as do the sheep and goats, but bantums, ducks, goats, sheep, run togerther in the barn yardand pasture.the older flock has it own large yard.if so what should i get and should it be hens, roosters.

Guineas tend to very territorial when housed with other poultry. When we kept a few guineas in with our Buffs, they ran them all over the run constantly. They will fight and challenge them for food, water, nest boxes... even fight the rooster. However, there are many benefits to having guineas around, but keep them separate from your other poultry.

My guineas pretty much leave my chickens alone. They all free range and the only time the guineas fight off the chickens is when I throw out some scratch. They were raised with chickens and I think that makes a difference. I really enjoy watching guineas when they get over a grasshopper that flys well.

Being raised with chickens does not make a difference. Mine started with chickens before it went to hell with the male Guineas attacking the chickens.

Now that I have a bigger Guinea flock they focus more on each other and less on my chickens, especially the roos. It can get tense during the beginning of breeding season and for some reason in the Fall.

Guineas are happier and more balanced in their behavior if they can free range. Kept confined in a run makes them even more aggressive towards each other and other poultry.
