under the lights!

I am a new chick mom,I am just wondering how long the chicks have to be under the lights. They are two weeks now and are laying further away from the light.

Until they are fully feathered they need some supplemental heat. Depending on the breed and how cold it is where you are at they could be ready to go outside by week 5 or 6. Also if you can start raising the light up or use smaller wattage lights as they get older and need less heat.
