Unexpected grass death when processing chickens

Had an unexpected grass death as a result of processing chickens. I was scalding them prior to plucking, and the water got up to 160-170F, and I was trying to cool it down, so I poured some out on the grass, and added cool water to make it 145F. When I did that I killed my grass. There is a 1'x2' dead patch right in the middle of my yard now. I know boiling water will kill grass, but I wasn't expecting that.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Anyone have an idea how hot is too hot when you're pouring out processing water after scalding? I've never had this happen before, and I've poured out water after I was done several times.

Roots can be very delicate, and every species of plant is different regarding what it can withstand.
For reference, think about cooking a carrot, spring onion, or potato. You can cook either in a variety of ways, slow over low heat or fast on high heat... but the spring onion would be overcooked long before the potato or the carrot.

In hydroponics, the water temperature matters a lot, if it got over 90F for a sufficient length of time the roots will die. In nature, the ground provides insulation and thermal mass that cools the roots on even the hottest days.

Yep that will happen, I always pour hot water on the driveway to kill the weeds.
