We have a chick who has had a unique smell since we got her (day old). She smells faintly of tomato paste. Should we be concerned about this? She is very active. She was the first who figured out how to fly out of the brooder box. Do some chickens have their own smell?

That's interesting. I've never noticed that about chicks, I just know they tend to smell. : )

As long as she is active, eating and drinking and her droppings appear normal it could just be her.

On. Ty. I had read a sour smell indicates something is wrong. She doesn't have a sour smell. I told my son maybe she is indicating how she would like to be basted!
