Unknown Chicken Breed

Why do they call them hybrids? A hybrid consists of two different species. Not two different breeds of the same species. Marketing maybe?

Technically they're mixed breeds.

Hybrid is also used for crosses between varieties in garden plants.

The term distinguishes between a cross between stable lines that produces predictable, uniform results and a random cross that produced unpredictable results.

I'm sure that the top hatcheries guard their parent lines for the high-production layer hybrids as carefully as the lines for the meat birds are guarded.

I believe they're a mix from Tractor Supply called California Tans. Any chance they lay tan eggs?
