I had three broody chickens this past summer who hatched out at least four chicks each and after this past Monday, I have lost all but one of the chicks which were hatched, and the one that has survived is a rooster (which sadly, I do not need)
.
All of the pulleys were lost to disgusting predators (hawks) except the one I found Tuesday, who had died over night in the coop. I knew when I observed her in the run Monday morning that she was not looking well. She was all puffed up, tail drooping down. Sadly, my suspicions were correct and she was gone by the morning.
I hope that my luck with broody chickens will play out again this spring and summer and I can actually produce a brood of pullets that will last to the next cycle of laying hens and beyond
