I noticed before this cold snap we had that my flock of 50 hens are producing 6-8 eggs a day. An Incredibly low count.

Just saw a post on FB about people not being able to buy or even find fresh eggs anymore and MANY backyard chicken owners responded by saying the same thing, that their hens are not laying even 1/4 of the usual quantities.

Anyone else seeing the same thing and any ideas as to why?

Shorter daylight hours. Once the daylight hours increase more, egg Production will follow.

I get between 6-8 eggs a day from 28 hens, & 2 pullets currently. Pullet #2 started laying today. I was originally getting between 2-4 eggs a day at the start of the winter season.

Have you heard about this? It seems that they're changing the ingredients in chicken feed and it's seriously cut into the chickens' ability to produce eggs. DuMor and Producer's Pride are specifically mentioned. Just click where it say's watch on youtube. The relevant portion of this is from the 4 to 7 minute mark.

I don't use layer feed anyway, just All Flock, Flock Raiser, & Oyster shells on the side.

My chickens refuse to eat Dumor.
