Bear with us... we are very new to chickens, coop building, and this forum, but we have just finished our coop build and we are so happy!

We only bought:
4 4x4s
2 2x4x12s
2 sx4x8s
2 sheets of plywood

The roof was upcycled from our old dog house:

The framing was all 2x2 upcycled from a pergola we took down at the in-laws:

The floor is a trap door so it is easy to clean:

It is held up by barrel locks and can hold me up:

You should be really proud of your efforts (especially the recycling/low cost!). Everything is looking great. I also really like the trap door floor (it won't work for my current set-up but I will definitely keep it in mind for future projects :)

Wait! There's more!

The siding is all from pallets that were going to the landfill! We pulled them apart to salvage the wood:

The left side of the coop is a huge door to make cleaning easier:

The nest boxes are cantilevered out and are made from our old kitchen cabinets!

The windows were grabbed from the dump. The paint was left over from the last time the in-laws stained their deck:

Our son is demonstrating the stop for the nest box lid. The lid is clad in gutter flashing, left over form another project. The nest boxes are sided in oak, also salvaged from pallets from a local stone yard.

There is a hole so the stop will catch and not smash our egg collector's fingers:

We posted a contest on our Facebook page and Flickr asking for names for the coop. Being potters, many of our potter friends submitted names... the winner was from our friend Jim, who submitted:

The sign will go on the front of the coop after a coat of poly.

And here is the end result, missing a few minor details:

There is a door that slides in the channels that is waiting for paint to dry and some handles to be added here and there. And, of course, it needs its sign!

That is terrific! I love the angled side boards and windows. Very cool!

Ummmmmm..... I just had to go and check out your website and it is easy to see where your style and craftsman/woman ship comes from. Your pieces are gorgeous. Those lager mugs are screaming to me as a nice reward for my hubby when he finishes our coop!!
