I’ve been on the past few weeks about my lavender Orpington. It is 10 weeks now, I feel like it’s a hen but it looks so much more developed than my other lavender and also bigger and more developed than my 16 week hens....could it be a cockerel?

Lavender Orpington are harder to sex due to pullets having early comb and wattle development. Since yours is only 10 weeks I would think it's a rooster with that much comb, but I won't be positive, as my 2 last year had me fooled right up until they started laying. Give it time.

Well, if it is a girl, that's one impressive comb! Most of my Orps have big floppy combs, but not at that early age. I was not sure of their gender until they started doing the squat. Maybe in a couple more weeks you'll see some boy feathers appear. Beautiful blue flock you have there!

thank you! Two sapphire gems and two lav orps....and then 9 others that are not blue

My Buff Orpington had me guessing and a lot of people from BYC stumped. She was so developed we almost traded her but I couldn't follow through. Thankfully I didn't. We are so in love with her and were so thankful we didn't trade her. She laid an egg 3 weeks later. Huge comb and wattle by 10 weeks! So hold out longer and see if ya hear a crow or see an egg.
