So I decided cut out some small wooden legs and attached them to a small basket which raised the eggs about 3/4-1in. Within a few minutes the temp began to even out on the thermometers. They now read, 98.5, 99.5 and 99.9. Seems like I got it figured out.
I have a hova bator type Styrofoam incubator, I am using it without the turner for the first time so the eggs sit lower in the incubator, the mercury thermometer on the top of the eggs reads 99.5, the merc type thermometer at the floor of the incubator reads 96, and the egg o meter 95. I have used these thermometer before and they all have been accurate. I have a I set goose eggs at 9:30pm and it is 7am. During incubator set up all 4 thermometers were within a 2 degrees 98.5 to 100.5, so I put the eggs in the center of the bator it was almost like the eggs which were at room temperature were acting like a heat sink it became difficult to regulate heat once the eggs were in the bator. I am thinking of moving them to my cabinet incubator as it tens to be more even, but am concerned about damaging the eggs as it will be more difficult hand turning on a shelf and I am afraid of breaking one of these very expensive eggs, also opening the door 3 times a day might be problematic with humidity. Not to mention I have several trays of chicken eggs in there already. But I am worried these may not develop in these conditions. Seem as if the incubator is having difficulty heating these very large eggs to the bottom of the incubator.
I have never had these issues when using the turner usually temp is more consistent thinking due to the space beneath the auto-turner and airflow. Almost like the eggs are acting like a heat sink.
