Chick arrived in McM shipment on the 28th(Sunday) . All other 27 are growing and thriving. She has been not quite right from the get go. Sleeping constantly, pasty butt then diarrhea. Yesterday was water poo with white in it. Later last night had normal looking poo just very small. She has Quik Chick in her water, eaten nothing but chick starter. She is very weak. We keep dipping her beak in water and occasionally she will shakily get up to eat a couple specks of food. She is staying very close to the heat lamp. I have done a bunch of searches on this as I know this is not uncommon, but not sure what this sounds like to everyone. Should I give her egg yolk for extra energy? Make a mash of yogurt ,crumbles, and yolk? Should I not introduce anything new to her system because she is so fragile? I know sometimes the just die but... it couldn't hurt at this point to try SOMETHING, right? I know some say poly-vi-sol, but I thought the Quik Chick is like poly-vi-sol for birds. What should I do?

do you have any baby oatmeal? try making a gruel of it, and put a little on her beak- she may be able to get some of it down her- also, if you don't make a gruel of the chik starter. just a few thoughts that might help-

Can you separate her from the others so they don't pick on her and if she is contagious the others wont get it. I would give her fluids by mouth. Drip the treated water on the top of her beak near the tip. This way the water slowly drips into her mouth and she will not choke. Keep her warm and offer her some scrambled egg which shouldn't be too hard on her system. Give her lots of love and watch the rest of the chicks for any signs of trouble. You are doing your best and I will send good thoughts your way.

Keep us posted

I can grind up some oatmeal. When you say "make a gruel" do I cook the oatmeal and make it runny? Or just mix it uncooked with water? Thank you for your help.

I have now separated her, created a cage the size of a shoebox out of hardware cloth and put her where she can move closer or further from the heat. She has water and husband put in some chopped up boiled egg yolk. Would scrambled egg be better? Thank you for your help.

When my chicks are sick I give them scrambled egg. They seem to prefer it to boiled yolk. Anything is worth a try. If I could have made my chicks better by standing on my head singing Yankee Doodle I would have. Try mixing some chick starter with applesauce or other canned fruit ( it is soft and has sugar) that you mash up. Give it to her on your finger. Fluids is the most important. Can you get some Pedialite in her? If not try a weak solution of sugar water.

Okay, I am going to make a scrambled egg now and some chick starter applesauce to see if she'll take either. I am wondering if she is just messed up on the insides. She is a white crested black polish, but her feathers are growing out white instead of black, and they look tattered and not very feathery. Her eyes appear to be mostly red also. Weird albino type disease.

I don't think she's gonna make it. The kids named her Phylis. Poor lil duffer. Thank you for you help.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You did everything you could. I wish health and love for your other little ones and you also. Take care.
