Reposting because I am very worried. Here is my original post. I apologize it is so long, but I wanted to get all the details in. as an update, I have been feeding her scrambled eggs with crushed eggshells in them, and yogurt. She eats and drinks decent, but seems to pick around at the food for a while before she eats it. I have felt her crop and it feels fine, and used a finger to feel around inside her vent, but felt no sign of an egg. She is pooping completely clear water now
“I have a 5 month old olive Egger pullet who isn’t acting right. Here is the background:
Last week, I noticed this gals comb was really turning red and she was spending a lot of time in the coop laying in the nesting boxes. She would come out to eat and drink, but would turn around and go right back.
I was so excited because I just knew she was getting ready to lay. As the week went on, she stopped coming out to eat, and spent the whole day in one corner of the coop. I still didn’t think much of it. I was gone for the weekend and I had my aunt and gma take care of my girls & boys. When I texted he to see if the pullet had laid yet, she told me she acted like she was going broody, but she hasn’t even laid any eggs. When I got home last night, she was laying in the corner, her comb was pale and she was lethargic. I picked her up and she is very thin & weak. I felt around her vent to see if I could feel anything-nothing. I felt her crop for impaction and didn’t feel anything, but went ahead and massaged it a little just in case. When I put her down, she went straight to the water dish and drank a ton of water. I gave her a few raisins-which are her fave treat- to see if she would eat them. She did eat a few, but not with much enthusiasm. Today she did come out and ate a little fermented feed, but she still acts very weak. She doesn’t graze like normal and just kind of lays around. I know these are all probably very broad symptoms, but I can’t figure it out. Everything is the same as far as feed and such. I just keep thinking the the timing has to have something to do with egg laying. And ideas on what it could be or what I can do to help her? He poo looks a little thin and odd colored to me, so I am attaching some pics of her and of the poo
