Hello
I am a new chicken owner and I am learning about my beautiful girls I have. We have made serious mistakes that will never ever happen again.
My girls can't handle a lot of change. We moved there coop three times in the last couple of months and now have decided until things get better for our birds that it stays put. The stress of adjusting to outside living has been hard with all the rain and cooler temps in SC.
My birds are all very young. I have raised them from babies. 12 weeks to 15 weeks 9 in total. The first thing I noticed was my Bard Rock scratching a complete C around her ears. This sight gave me some info to help guide me to look for mights. They were all clean. I flushed both the birds I saw scratching with peroxide and one side it really smelled bad on both birds. I used yeast meds in there ear and triple antibiotic ointment to help where they were scratching.
They are still slinging there heads and now my Bard Rock is wheezing. My big girls that are 15 weeks old are croopy and one sounds like she is honking.
The only thing I know to do is use Vet Rx along with some pro- biotics. Maybe some supplements wouldn't hurt. I am making oregano oil and using that too. Is there anything else I can do to help my birds naturally?

It sounds like your doing all you can do. Sorry I can't help more. Maybe try taking one to the vet.

Shoot. Sorry about this happening.

We have always attempted to treat everything naturally.

Sounds like maybe a part of a problem is lice. If you haven't already, I'd typically do some epsom salt baths here, give them a dusting of DEarth (a lot of folks say don't let the chickens inhale it. We have been doing it for years, as well as putting it in their food. No issues, but important you reasearch and make an informed decision. This goes for my whole post) you'd also want to completely turn the coop bedding, pressure wash the structure if possible, and cover everything in DEarth before putting them back.

Then we would also put shea butter on their combs, waddles and feet. As good as Vaseline is, it is far from natural.

For the respiratory suspicions, You are doing well with the oregano oils. I would also add a healthy dose of apple cider vinegar to their water, and scramble some eggs with nutritional yeast added in. This is where they can get vitamin B.

They will also need vitamin E. For this, we use sunflower seed butter, spinach, almond milk, broccoli and some other seeds, but I'd avoid the seeds for now.

Last but not least, if you can find a farmer and get your hands on some RAW cows or goats milk - we have found for this to be the holy grail. It is ridiculously nutrient dense and works miracles (while you're there - start a heard share for yourself. Raw milk is God's only naturally complete food). If you find one of these farms, you can usually ask for discarded milk from that day that would otherwise be fed to their animals.

Anyway, hope this helps.

Matt

Also, I would add that our chickens love the milk. It drives them berserk like nothing else ever has or will. 50 chickens will guzzle a gallon in no time.

So latt do you think it's truly lice that started this mess or stress from being moved and the coop being outside and it is a hoop coop. We have moved it around three times. They are not noawing just sneezing and there ears hurt. I put veggie oil in them yesterday. They are still slinging them around today. I think out pin is to small for none birds. We are working on that part. Everybody is yelling me permetherin dust is best. I have cats and dogs that go in the back yard where they are. I am so afraid to use this stuff. All I know is the are croopy sneezing and wheezing and there ears smelled one one side. I have ordered vet Rx will.help some the oil I made today will be ready for them but if this does not get better soon I might loose them. I am not ready to loose my birds. As many farms as we have in the area they don't see chickens. So what do I do for the mights in there ears. I just don't know how upper respiratory issues come from mights.

I am ok with DE as long as it's food grade. I have used it on my cats from time to time for fleas. I am worried about my birds sneezing and it's going down in the 40's. I am worried about my birds getting sicker. They are eating and drinking but my little birds miss there mates I have inside. I have three quarantined. It might be the whole flock. What does ebson salt do for mights and how does it effect my bird?

The goats milk thing? Do I give it to my birds? I was going to put some vitamins in there water.

Chickens are actually lactose intolerant and shouldn't have large amounts of dairy.
You need to remove the pus and get some antibiotics such as amoxacillian or Tylan.
Vetrx is just vicks rub for chickens, it might alleviate symptoms but not treat her.
DE us useless for anything and oregano oil can by caustic without a carrier oil
Respiratory infections don't come from mites.
