Urban Chicken Retirement????/

I can understand not wanting to eat a chicken thats past egg laying age. My chickens are pets, they will live out their lives with me.
 
People sure can be funny things, can't they? On the one hand, these folks are so attached to these birds that they can't stand the thought of someone killing them. On the other hand, they aren't attached enough to want to have them around when they are no longer useful.

A lot of places have upper limits to the number of chickens you can have. If your cities upper limit is three birds, what do you do when they are too old to lay. Chickens can live 8 years or so. If you want to continue having fresh eggs,, you have to get rid of the birds.
