Dear all

After a very unsuccessful batch of eggs were put into our school incubator we were left with only 2 to lockdown this weekend and although they made progress pipping etc they got rather stuck and I had to intervene (although in hindsight I fear I may have intervened too early, one bled a lot last night when he threw his egg over by 180 degrees and I feared the worst but he is all healed this morning and walking around the incy)

My problem is with my second duckling. When I checked on it at 4am it was well and truly glued in but I could see that the yolk sac was ever so slightly still out so I popped him in an egg box bit and put him upright and left him. When I checked again at 7am all blood vessels and yolk sac had been absorbed and he was really straining to break free. I laid him on my palm and let him lush out by angling the egg for him.

The yolk sac was indeed absorbed but he is very tiny and his belly still looks swollen.

Have just checked on them again, and noticed that whilst the first duckling is walking around this duckling wasn't. I popped him out to check on him and noticed that his feet are very curled in! His tummy is still slightly swollen but I'm hoping this will go down?

Please could anyone just quickly give me some idea of if his legs look fine and will correct themselves or if there is a deformity?

Here are some pictures if they help at all, he is trying to move around and is managing it by shuffling

Not sure if that tummy is a problem or not but his feet are so curled under! I fear he has not formed correctly in his egg and won't be able to walk :(

Thank you so much for replying , his navel is healed it's just his abdomen that is slightly swollen. He still hasn't uncurled his feet but is moving himself around. Is it likely that he will die then?

Update: his abode em now looks fine, less swollen so seems to be going down. I made him some little shoes from cardboard and have them taped on but as I was doing that I noticed that his first leg join isn't extending like my other duckling so he can't actually stand...this is a while other problem I'm guessing. Would massaging it help?

You will need to address the possible niacin deficiency . Some brewers yeast or a water soluble multi vitamins would be a start.

This product covers all of the vits.
