Okay, so maybe this is not urgent and I just need to leave well enough alone. This morning there was a baby chickadee on my patio - fully feathered, just a tiny version of the adults. It was sort of flapping around, and I impulsively picked it up and put it in a tree near where I saw an adult. It ended up on the ground again, then I realized I should butt out of their business.

Now it's out there on my patio again, and I'm wondering if it needs help, or if it's just having flying lessons and I should mind my own business.

Help!!?

P.S. No idea if I've chosen the right forum section...

Getting flying lessons. You would be kindest in just keeping things like your dogs away from it but otherwise letting things be.

Thank you. Will do. The adult bird is not around right now...still okay?

Without a doubt the adults ARE around. They stick around and continue to feed and care for fledgling young. The birds can't learn to fly if they don't flap out of the nest and try. Definitely leave it alone, if it is fully feathered, it is a fledgling. You'd be doing the young bird a lot of harm by trying to take it in, because you ruin the chance for it to learn while its parents are caring for it.

Nevermind, the mama came back. I really do know better than to interfere with wildlife, it's just the wee thing looked so vulnerable out there. I'm rolling my eyes at myself right now.

Now I just wish my dang camera had not run out of battery power! I got a few pics before it died.
