Hello
I have a mother hen with 11 chicks they were all perfectly healthy just few hours ago I let her free range with them, all of a sudden I noticed one us missing I looked around and found it in a bush sitting alone, I grabbed it and noticed it's mouth breathing making a click noise with each breath and it vomited all over and it seems there's a discharge from the back, I don't see foamy eyes so I can't say this is a respiratory disease, the chick was just fine like couple hours ago eating/drinking fully energetic I'm thinking it either ate something or it got stepped on by momma hen, any suggestions?

It's currently sleeping and looks like about to die, gave it a drop or olive oil and some water hopefully if something stuck it goes through

Offer sugar water (1 tsp of sugar per 8 ounce cup of water) to its beak if alert enough to drink and swallow. Getting stepped on could have caused the vomiting and droppings to come out. Feel for any air under the skin of the chest, neck and sides, which could be a leaking air sac from getting bumped. I hope you can save the chick, but it may be too far gone.

I'm so sorry! If there is no other predators around there, like cats or dogs, etc., then it's just a guess like you thought, probably stepped on. I'm not sure it can be saved but try to get it warmed up. I see @Eggcessive replied so I'll leave it at that. Good luck!! I hope it comes around! :hugs

Update: almost no more mouth breathing ,drinking sugar water by itself, stood on it's feet, seems slightly better but looks pretty tired and just wanting to sleep
Thank you everyone for the quick replies truly appreciate it! Will keep posting updates

Oh my, what a turnaround! It looks like it's going to be fine! ❤️ I'd keep it inside and warm though as returning it to mom it may not be able to keep up yet.
