Hi everyone sorry for the caps heading but one of my day olds was attacked by another hen no serious cuts but he is badly bruised and was cut a little.

He is breathing guys and twitches/moves now and again but is not reacting and limp when picked up... Almost as if he were in a coma.

I shall have him in a hat on top of a hot water bottle tonight. Any advice guys? Is there any hope for recovery?

Thank you all dearly,

James.

I think you are doing the best things so far - keep the chick separated from all others and warm. Since the chick is not reactive, I don't know that there is much else you can do.

If he does recover enough to eat you might make mash, feed and water. It will be easier to eat and combines water and food requirements. The little one might just need some rest and recovery but you also might get some electrolyte water or Apple Cider Vinegar water and force feed it some so it does not lose strength. Water is most important right now but if you can but something with nutritional value in the water that would be best. Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother in it would have a higher nutritional value then most things. You might try just a few drops now just to make sure you don't drown it but that it keeps hydrated. Good luck.

Apple Cider Vinegar 1 to 100, about 1 TBS per quart of water...

you might also crush a little Tylenol and put it in the water to help with the pain...

Also if you want to go really far you might put a soft piece of cloth or soft stuffed animal next to it for comfort. The mother would provide her soft down but since you don't have that something soft would help comfort the chick.

Unfortunately I am in a similar situation, but much worse. I had a two day old chick get its fluff with the skin get ripped off both sides of its head so it looks like it has a fluff mohawk. Last night we put it in a box with a heat lamp with water and food. I put a little iodione on the spots and told our 4 yr old he might not make it. Well it did!!:) Today I got blu kote put some of that on and then to keep it moist I put udder balm on it. We are hoping for the best. It is walking around and cheeping but man does it look bad. Animals are tougher than humans.

Thank you so much for all the replys everyone but sadly he didn't make it through the night but he was with me anyway.

Thank you all again.

James.
