Eggbert hatched out of the wrong end of his shell (the air sack was still completly intact when i fished th shell out afterwards), he was also early, hatching on day 20, but he had pipped on day 19!

He was the only one to hatch out of 6 and so i decided as he was going to be lonely that i went and brought 2 more day old chicks. He was very lethargic and weak on his legs, but as soon as the other chicks were in there he perked up no end (this was 24 hours ago). Now in the last couple of hours he is face down opening and closing his mouth as if he is tring to peep/breath and occationally he will flip him self around like a spasm sort of thing. I have given him some scrambled eggs and sugar water to help but it seems it isn't.

Can anyone advise me what to do as we are all very distressed for him and don't know what else to do if anything? Is going to die? :(

Thanks in advance x

So sorry about your baby. Many times when chicks don't hatch right, they don't always survive. Things need to go right at hatching and he was obviously at the wrong end of the egg.

I don't think there is much you can do about it. You might want to separate him from the others so he does not get trampled and keep him a tad warmer than that of his brooder mates. A few degrees warmer. Don't let him get any drafts. Keep the food and water near so he does not have to struggle. If you have any vitamins or electrolytes you can put in the water, they may help strengthen him.

So sorry about your chick.
