I have a polish bantam and she is acting strange. I'm not sure of her exact age but she is definitely under a year old. She is older than six weeks just cause I can tell. I got her off a guy who was selling all his poultry. She kept following me everywhere so he let me take her for free. I have had her for about 3 weeks now. The 3 weeks I have had her shes been in a cage quarantined from the rest of the flock because I wanted to make sure she was healthy. But lately she has been laying down on her side all the time. She wont eat either. She does get up every now and then to walk around but not often. But this morning I picked her up and she is really skinny to the point her breast bone is sticking out. I panicked so I shot some Baytril down her throat and took her in the house. I set her in the air conditioning and put some finer crushed food in her cage and she started eating. I also put some corid in her water. Is she depressed or is she sick??? Please help! I forgot to mention that she did throw up some of the Baytril.

I would think she may be lonely and depressed from being by herself, but they can get coccidiosis if they are exposed to new strains on a new soil. I realize she has lived in a cage, but could she have been exposed to any? Baytril is kind of the atomic bomb of antibiotics, so I would have probably tried some other treatments first, since you want to save the big guns for when you need them, and not create antibiotic resistance. I would worm her, and feed her some scrambled egg, low salt tuna, and put her on probiotics and vitamins in her water every other day. Most chickens love feed that has been moistened with water.

Okay thank you so much! I think she is just lonely cause whenever I go to check on her she jumps up and comes to me. I will definitely give her some treats and put some vitamins in her water.
