I have a d'uccle that went broody last year but no rooster. I would love for her to go broody and hatch some eggs this year. Is there a way to urge her to go broody or is it something that just happens?

It's something that just happens, sorry. Hormones cause it.

Try putting a golf ball or smaller size of ball in the nest box. It might encourage her to decide to sit on them for a while. If it works just switch the ball(s) with some eggs.

I have a golf ball in there right now. I guess I will just have to wait it out and hope the broody bug bites!

Stop collecting eggs. Typically if I leave eggs in the nesting boxes for about a week or so, I'll get a hen to sit. It worked this year.
