US DEPT of Argiculture ending funding to Extension programs like 4-H

I am not a farmer but I am the granddaughter of a rancher. I feel strongly that our nation was built on the backs of farmers and ranchers. They provided the original infrastructure, pioneers made the sacrifices. Now the government is looking to end a program that encouraged all kinds of kids to take part and understand farming.

Why should you care?

These extension monies also provide assistance to farmers and help when they have crops failing or issues and encourages them to continue to work the land and not sell it for a strip mall or houses.

Not introducing kids to farming in some capacity is a huge mistake. My short 6 years in 4-H taught me how to succeed at so many things. Those skills are invaluable to my life.

Slashing of funding is going to trickle down to the food the farmers give the gov't in exchange for the assistance that is given to schools for the lunch programs.

Decisions are made without looking at the end result.

I don't care if you are republican, democrat or space alien. I do care that this funding is going away and we "wee" farmers with our little flocks of chickens have a voice. Our representatives need to READ before they VOTE and look at what the end result is.

Doesn't surprise me. Think about it How many of our memebrs of congress,senate ever stepped foot on a farm. They don't have the slightest idea of where there food comes from or any concerns that it won't be there tomorrow. Very sorry to hear about this funding its probabally going to be just like the water rights bill noone will ever hear about it. Call your local news station see if they will bring some light to it. We tried with the water rights bill but no one showed any interest in the bill passing or not. When athe people of the country loose their water rights then they will be up in arms.
