I am very new to all the ways to keep you coop clean. So I read that DE was so good. I used it all over my coop.
Now that I have been learning more I want to try the deep litter method.
My questions is do I have to remove all the DE that I already put down in my coop to start the deep litter method ? Or can I go ahead and just start putting the pine shavings down with out removing the DE ?

aii you do is put down chips stir them up togeather.I add some new chips and de about every 2 weeks and stir in to the old.

Below is a link to a post regarding one users experience using DE with Deep Litter. She gives detailed info as to what occurred.

Based on that experience, I think I'd try to remove as much DE as possible. I use deep litter and love it. Hope it works out for you!
Great link!!
Even 'natural' pesticides have the same downfall as chemical ones in that they kill 'good' organisms as well as 'bad' ones.
