Used nesting boxes - Yes or No?

Got some old nesting boxes from my step-dad. They have been sitting unused for at least 5 years. They are made of 1-1/4" plywood and, yes, they need a good cleaning. Hubby & I are debating whether it is worth my effort to clean them - or does he just build new ones out of new lumber ?

If I do clean them, suggestions on with what & do I treat them with anything? They've been through 2 good rainstorms so most of the is gone.

How big are the compartments?

I wouldn't bother since they are made of OSB which isn't really washable and chickens tend to eat it.

I'm with particle and not with so my 🗳 would be new ones unless ⏱ or is a concern.

But I do know those magazines from the doctors or dentist offices.

You can't go wrong either way. My advice would be to put a layer of paint on the interior of the boxes whether you take these or build new ones. The reason why is it gives you a better surface to clean compared to straight wood if in case an egg gets broken and you don't get to it immediately. I say this because I just had to clean all my nesting boxes after they got so disgusting due to my serial summertime egg eaters.
