I am today sending my girls outside full time. They are 8 weeks old and ready to be outside full time. My friend is getting new chicks today and I am trying to determine just how clean the brooder should be for her to use it for her girls. I am planning to vaccuum it out thoroughly, But wasn’t sure abut doing more to it. It is a raw wood base and 2 sides of wood, with hardware cloth on top and two of the other sides. We were going to paint it after the girls moved out, but am now going to wait on that. Will it be enough for me to vaccuum it out or should I do a more serious disinfectant cleaning of it?
thanks!

My brooder is raw wood as well. I take the hose to it and scrub it really well with a plastic scrub brush, though since you’re having such a quick turnover on batches of chicks, it may be wise to disinfect.

Thanks! I hosed it down thoroughly, after vaccuuming it out well, then scrubbed the whole thing with a bleach-water solution.
