Using dog crate to house chickens?

What do you all think about using a dog crate to house chickens in?

Chickens will be getting plenty of sunlight and room to roam. But just wondering about using a dog crate for housing?

I use a large airline crate for broody hens, or for a very few chicks temporarily. Not for permanent housing.

What kind of dog crate are you talking about?
How many chickens are you planning on having?
If you add your general location to your profile, it will help a lot with questions like this, as we will know better what kind of weather you deal with. What works for me in NC, may not work for people up north with bitter cold winters.
