I found out that newspaper might be slippery for new chicks.
But is newspaper on the floor with newspaper shreds will be fine?
Or should I just use paper towels..
I can't go out and buy the bedding right now... maybe later.

Any suggestions?

I'd stick with paper towels. You could probably put shredded newspaper on top, but you want something their feet can get a grip on to prevent spraddle legs. Good luck on your hatch!

Paper Or Real Cloth Towels For The 1st Week... Once Spraddle Leg Is No Longer An Potential Issue (between 4 And 7 Days Of Age) You Can Statrt Using Newspaper For Flooring/ Bedding Without Any Issues, But Not Until They Are Old Enough For The Hip And Hock Joints To Be Set And Musculature Formed And Toned.
