Vacationing with Ducks: How do you deal with water in freezing temperatures (or not freezing temps) while away?

Good idea! What do you have the water in?
A regular circular black water tub that many people use for ducks as well as other poultry! Very similar to this:
Also, our neighbors come to refill our animals' water.

Good idea! I have something like that. So you just stick a heater in there?
Your neighbors probably fill at least once a day, yes?

Looking at the extended forecast it looks like there will be only one night that will barely reach freezing while I'm gone.
So I think I'm good with freezing. I'm thinking use the float valve in the goat trough so it automatically refills since it seems it *might* only freeze one night, then I could have a larger bin of water that's covered so they can't get into it. Does that sound good enough?

I always have people here doing chores twice a day since I have dairy goats…. So I’ve never thought of watering once a day. In the summer, I do use a float valve which makes life so much easier- swish it and forget it.

Ah, well that does make it easier for you if you already have someone coming twice a day anyways. Float valves are quite helpful.
