Hello All, this is my second time now getting some chicks, Last year I did feed medicated feed through 12 weeks or so and no issues, all healthy great birds, but I have seen so many mixed reviews.

I am getting them vaccinated for Mareks. Now the medicated feed is only good against Cocci right?

Since I did not get Cocci vaccination should there be any worries to not feed this if I just went with regular chick starter?

Thanks for the advice

Since they will only be vaccinated for Marek's you can give them either feed. As for the "medicated" feed, most often in the US the only medication added is amprolium to help prevent coccidiosis. It isn't an antibiotic, it's merely a thiamine blocker.

If the chicks are vaccinated for coccidiosis then medicated feed is a no-no.

x2. Vaccinating chicks against Marek's disease is a good thing IMO, and has nothing to do with coccodiosis, or amprolium in feed.
Medicated feed (with amprolium) is also a good idea, depending on the amount of coccidia in your soil.
Mary
