Ive seen some mixed reviews on this hatchery. I wanted to make a thread and tell everyone about my experiences and shed some light on things ive read.
I purchased chicks from valley farms. Ryan is the owner who has been running the hatchery since he was 14. He is now 20. I could not have asked for a more polite person to deal with.
It is very important to read faqs on this site. They will provide you an estimated ship date based on when chicks hatch. This date can change as we cannot control nature. My date did not change.
Tracking numbers are sent by request, if you respond to the shipping confirmation they reply later the ship day with tracking numbers. I received a tracking number the afternoon that I received the confirmation.
Shipping-
my only issue was with my local post office. I had been tracking 3 packages including chicks. Not a single one updated. They did not call me when chicks arrived, we called them inquiring. The post office lady complained to my husband about "red neck birds in the mail" and they arrived a day later than what they were supposed to. We were not happy. He was also told that shipping time is an estimate that if mail comes in on time we are lucky. She was lucky i wasnt there.
We had losses. I completely understand why after having them a day late as well as learning the attitude of my post master. Most were healthy and happy. Other than the doas we have happy healthy chicks .
Ryan had compensated my losses and returned a portion of my purchase. I did need to send an email and images if the doa chicks.
All in all i would purchase from here again. The prices are better than anywhere i have seen. I would request to pay extra and ship fed ex or ups beings i do not trust my postal service. But i do need to say ryan was quick to answer questions via email, the chicks are healthy and happy. The packaging was done well, and the prices are lower than anywhere I have seen.
