Finally, both of my SLWs are laying. I have been getting an egg a day from one of my pullets. It has been small and dark brown with a very had shell and bright orange yolk. Yesterday I came home to two eggs. The second was lighter brown, larger, and much lighter colored yolk. The girls are the same age, same breed, free range in the same yard, eat the same layer mash, everything the same. How can there be such a difference in the eggs?

They are young, often it takes a while for their egg laying machinery to work out the kinks. They may look more alike soon.
